Customers not paid by Cameo Fine Art Auctioneers May 20th, 2012

More than 300 people have complained to Trading Standards in Berkshire that an auction house has sold their items but failed to pay them.

Customers told West Berkshire Council that Cameo Fine Art Auctioneers, at Midgham near Newbury, have been failing to pay them for the past year.

Cameo said it was unable to comment due to an internal investigation into two ex-employees.

Trading Standards said the auction house had now suspended trading.

Jan Smith, from Burfield, took the company to the High Court to recoup £3,000.

She said she left jewellery, watches, a coin collection and other items with Cameo and was later told all had been sold.

Olympic Games will boost UK economy, predicts Bank of England May 19th, 2012

Britains struggling economy will receive a much-needed boost from the Olympic Games this summer as more tourism and extra public spending lead to increased activity that could spell the end of the double dip recession, the Bank of England said.

In its assessment of the likely impact of hosting the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, Threadneedle Street said it expected output to be around 0.2% higher in the third quarter than it otherwise would have been.
